Founded in 1879 by Julius Goldstein at 32 Dauphin Street in Mobile, Goldstein's has changed with the times and continued to be Mobile's, and one of the South's leading fine jewelry stores.
Shortly after its founding Julius moved his store to 50 Dauphin Street, and moved again to much larger quarters at 3-5 South Royal Street in about 1903, where the store remained in operation until 1986, when all operations were moved to Bel Air Mall.
Goldstein's was run by its founder Julius Goldstein until about 1929, when his son Mendel took over the store. Mendel was a big believer in education and was one of the original purchasers of equipment from the Gemological Institute of America, and became a member of the American Gem Society. Mendel ran the store until 1956 when he sold Goldstein's to the Richard Frank family, and they moved to Mobile from Decatur, Alabama. Richard Frank had been in the jewelry business since the late 1930's, when he went to work in Baltimore, MD for the Kay Company. Richard and his brothers owned three jewelry stores in North Alabama and Tennessee.
In 1967 Goldstein's became the Mobile's first major jewelry store to open a location in what was then "West" Mobile--in the new Bel Air Mall. And, in 1974 Goldstein's opened its 3rd store, when the main operation moved to the newly expanded Bel Air Mall, with a 5000 square foot jewelry center. Goldstein's maintained a presence in Bel Air Mall until 2002 when, in August, it became the first major jewelry store in Mobile to move to what is now known as "West Mobile"--its present location at 887 Hillcrest Road.

Goldstein's current "head honcho" first came to work at age 13. Richard Frank, Jr. has worked since that time, whenever he wasn't in school. Having a true love for jewelry, Richard is obsessed with caring for customers and supplying Mobile with unique and beautiful jewelry and gems, always at excellent prices and service!
